Why Connect to Wi-Fi
Connecting your Halo Collar to Wi-Fi helps ensure the best overall performance and reliability.
- Automatic firmware updates while charging
- Improved GPS accuracy through satellite data downloads
- Keeps your collar up to date with the latest features and improvements
- Collar continues working with GPS even without Wi-Fi or LTE, but regular connection is recommended
How to Connect Your Collar to Wi-Fi
To connect your Halo Collar:
Open the Halo App
Go to Settings > My Collars
Select your pet’s collar
Tap Wi-Fi to begin scanning
Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
Enter your Wi-Fi password and confirm
Important Notes
- Only supports 2.4 GHz or merged dual-band networks
- Will not connect to 5 GHz-only or hidden networks
- If your network is not listed, check that 2.4 GHz is enabled on your router
- Firmware version 01.05.89 or older requires a wired firmware update before connecting to Wi-Fi
- Firmware version 01.05.86 or older must be updated before the collar can be added to your account
- The collar can store multiple Wi-Fi networks and switch automatically

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection Issues
If you are having trouble connecting:
- Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network
- “Forget” and reconnect to the network on your phone to verify the password
- Move the collar closer to your router
- Restart your router
- Toggle Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off and on in your phone settings
- Ensure the Halo app has Bluetooth and location permissions enabled
- Update the Halo app to the latest version
- Try using a different phone or tablet
To check diagnostics:
Go to Settings > My Collars > Diagnostics > Wi-Fi module
- If errors appear in the Wi-Fi module, contact Halo Support
Common Wi-Fi Problems and Fixes
Frequent disconnects
- May indicate unstable signal or router issues
- Try switching to a more stable network
Slow or unstable Wi-Fi
- Move the collar’s charging location closer to the router
- Use a Wi-Fi extender if needed
Router blocking connection
- Ensure your network allows device traffic
- Confirm ports 443 and 8883 are enabled in router settings
Lost connection
- May happen after password or network changes
- Reconnect the collar in the Halo App

Using Cellular Data (LTE)
When Wi-Fi is unavailable, the Halo Collar uses LTE to stay connected.
- GPS tracking and virtual fences will continue to function
- Firmware updates will still occur but may take longer
- LTE helps maintain safety features when away from Wi-Fi
For best performance, keep your collar connected to Wi-Fi whenever possible.
