How to Confirm if I Have 2.4 GHz WiFi and See Where It Covers Within My Home Follow
If you'd like to confirm that you have 2.4 GHz WiFi coverage in your home so that you can connect your Halo Collar to your WiFi network, the easiest way to check this is by using the AirPort Utility app (for Apple users) or the WiFi Analyzer app (for Android users). Please follow the instructions below.
For Apple users (Android instructions below):
1. Install AirPort Utility from the App Store
2. Go to your iPhone's Settings app. Scroll down until you see AirPort Utility. Click on it to access the AirPort Utility app settings.
3. Enable "Wi-Fi Scanner" (this function is off by default). Confirm that the button is toggled on and appears green, as in the image below.
4. Open your AirPort Utility app.
5. Press 'Wi-Fi Scan' in the top right corner, and then 'Scan' on the next page.
6. See what networks are nearby. You can do this from different places in your house. Look for your home network, and see if any rows found indicate channels 1, 6, or 11 (these are the 2.4 GHz channels; higher numbered channels [30 or higher] indicate 5 GHz WiFi).
7. If you don't see your network on channels 1, 6, or 11, then your router needs to be updated to turn on 2.4 GHz. Get in contact with your Internet Service Provider's support for help with this.
8. Once you see your home network one channel 1, 6, or 11, you can configure the Halo Collar to connect to that network.
9. Walk around while scanning to see where you do and don't have coverage within that network/channel - and make sure your signal level is high (greater than -80 dBm) in the area where you charge your collar.
For Android users:
1. Install WiFi Analyzer from the Google Play Store
2. Once you open the WiFi Analyzer app, you will see a screen that shows the wireless networks within your range.
3. It will indicate which graph you're looking at in the top left corner. In the top center, it will show whether you're looking at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz networks. Make sure you're looking at the Channel Graph page and have 2.4 GHz selected (filled in blue).
4. Now you're viewing all the 2.4 GHz networks in your range. At the left side of the graph, you see the signal strength (note: the closer it is to zero, the better the signal. In other words, -40 is a stronger signal than -70). At the bottom, you see the channels that those wireless networks are on.
5. Look for your home WiFi network. If you do not see it on the 2.4 GHz page, then your router needs to be updated to turn on 2.4 GHz. Get in contact with your Internet Service Provider's support for help with this.
6. Once you see your home network on the 2.4 GHz page, you can configure the Halo Collar to connect to that network.
7. Walk around your house while scanning to see where you do and don't have coverage within that network/channel - and make sure your signal level is high (greater than -80 dBm) in the area where you charge your collar.
