Halo Beacon and Remote Troubleshooting Assistance
Beacons/Remotes Not Pairing
If your Beacon/Remote is not appearing or pairing in the app, follow these steps:
- Ensure it is powered on and near your phone
- Open the Halo app after turning on the Beacon/Remote
- Wait up to 40 seconds for the device to appear in the app
If the Beacon/Remote still does not appear:
- Turn it off and back on
- Toggle your phone’s Bluetooth off and on
- Retry pairing in the Halo app by following the on-screen instructions
Inconsistent or No Feedback
If your Beacon/Remote is not delivering consistent feedback:
Check Basic Setup
- Ensure it is powered on
- Confirm it is set to Listen in the Pet Card
- Make sure your dog’s collar is moving (feedback requires motion)
- Verify the collar is properly fitted, or that you are hand-testing correctly
- Ensure your phone is locked and the Halo app is not open in the foreground
- Confirm settings are synced (look for a checkmark)
Adjust Beacon/Remote Range
- Go to: Settings → My Beacons (My Remotes) → Level
- Adjust the slider (Levels 1–15)
- These levels represent signal strength, not exact distance
- Increase the level if the range is too small
- Decrease the level if the range is too large
Test different levels by walking the collar through the area to find the best setting. Environmental factors (walls, objects, nearby devices) may affect performance.
Consider Beacon Placement
- Beacons create a spherical radius around their location
- Placement may affect performance depending on the surroundings
Examples:
- If placed inside an object (like a bucket), you may need to increase the signal strength
- Multiple beacons nearby may require fine-tuning levels
Important Behavior Notes
- The collar must be moving/bouncing to trigger feedback
- Feedback will stop if the collar is turned around
- The collar typically will not trigger in the exact same spot twice
- To reset feedback, the collar must fully exit the beacon radius before re-entering
Training Tip
During training, you can also apply manual feedback through the app. This is just as effective and may be helpful while fine-tuning Beacon/Remote behavior.
Beacon Functions
Halo Beacons support two different modes:
-
Keep Away
- Prevents your dog from entering unwanted or unsafe areas
- Works similarly to a virtual fence boundary
-
Ignore Fences
- Creates a portable “safe zone”
- Prevents fence feedback while your dog is within the beacon’s range
For more details, refer to: Beacon Functions: Keep Away vs. Ignore Fences
Beacon/Remote Not Powering On
