How to Pre-lease an IP for Your Halo Collar
If you are troubleshooting your collar’s Wi-Fi connection, you may be asked to pre-lease (reserve) an IP address for your collar.
This process is different for every home network, but the steps below will guide you in the right direction.
When to Use This
You may need to pre-lease an IP address if:
- Your collar cannot connect to Wi-Fi
- You receive an “Unable to Configure IP Address” error
- Basic troubleshooting (like restarting your router) has not resolved the issue
Step 1: Identify Your Router
- Locate your home Wi-Fi router
- Find the label on the router
- Identify the make and model
Step 2: Find Your Router’s User Guide
- Search online using:
- [Router Make + Model] + “user guide”
- Open the official manual or support page
Step 3: Locate IP Reservation Instructions
- Search within the guide for terms like:
- “Lease”
- “DHCP Reservation”
- “IP Reservation”
- Follow the instructions specific to your router
⚠️ Note: Halo cannot provide exact steps for every router model.
Step 4: Use the Collar’s MAC Address
- When prompted, enter your collar’s MAC address
To obtain the MAC address:
- Contact Halo Customer Support to create a ticket and request it
Step 5: Complete the Setup
- Save your changes in the router settings
- Restart your router if prompted
Once completed, your collar should be able to connect to Wi-Fi successfully.
