Beacon Functions: Keep Away vs. Ignore Fences
Once you have registered a Beacon to your account in the Halo App, you can set it to Keep Away or Ignore Fences, depending on what you would like to accomplish.
Keep Away
The Keep Away function is the original Halo Beacon functionality. It is used to keep your dog out of unwanted or unsafe areas by simulating a Halo Fence boundary.
- Applies a Prevention Feedback prompt when your dog enters the Beacon’s radius
- You can customize both the feedback type and the radius size in the Halo App
⚠️ The Beacon radius is spherical, not flat. A larger radius may trigger feedback across floors (e.g., upstairs/downstairs).
Ways to Use Keep Away
- Place in areas inside your home (kitchen, office, near front door)
- Place in outdoor areas (near a pool, flower bed, or restricted yard space)
Ignore Fences
The Ignore Fences function creates a portable safe zone where your dog will not receive Fence feedback while within the Beacon’s range—regardless of fence boundaries.
This allows your dog to move through an active fence without receiving prevention feedback, as long as they are within range of the Beacon.
Ways to Use Ignore Fences
- Attach to a leash or carry it during walks so fences can remain On without triggering feedback
- Helps teach your dog they can safely leave the fence area when on a leash
- Keep it in your car (keychain or cup holder) to prevent feedback when driving through a fence with your dog
- Place in areas where false feedback may occur (e.g., near walls, garages, or metal-covered outdoor spaces)
How to Select Your Beacon’s Function
- Open the Halo App
- Tap Settings → My Beacons
- Select the Beacon you want to edit
- Tap Function
- Choose Keep Away or Ignore Fences
You can change each Beacon’s mode at any time using these steps.
