How to Confirm if I Have 2.4 GHz WiFi and See Where It Covers Within My Home
Ensuring that your home has 2.4 GHz WiFi coverage is essential for connecting your Halo Collar to your network. Below are instructions for both Apple and Android users.
For Apple Users
-
Install AirPort Utility from the App Store.
Open your iPhone's Settings app. Scroll down to AirPort Utility.
-
Enable "Wi-Fi Scanner" by toggling it on (green).
Open the AirPort Utility app.
Press Wi-Fi Scan in the top right corner, then tap Scan.
View the networks detected. Check if your home network appears on channels 1, 6, or 11 (these are 2.4 GHz channels). Higher numbers (30+) indicate 5 GHz WiFi.
If your network does not appear on channels 1, 6, or 11, contact your Internet Service Provider to enable 2.4 GHz.
Once your network appears on a 2.4 GHz channel, you can connect your Halo Collar to that network.
Walk around your home while scanning to check coverage and ensure the signal is strong (greater than -80 dBm) in the area where you charge your collar.
For Android Users
Install WiFi Analyzer from the Google Play Store.
Open the app to see nearby wireless networks.
-
Ensure you are viewing the Channel Graph page and have 2.4 GHz selected (blue fill).
Observe all 2.4 GHz networks in range. The left side shows signal strength (closer to zero is stronger; e.g., -40 is stronger than -70). The bottom shows network channels.
Look for your home WiFi network. If it doesn’t appear on 2.4 GHz, contact your Internet Service Provider to enable it.
Once detected, configure your Halo Collar to connect to that network.
Walk around your home while scanning to verify coverage and ensure the signal is strong (greater than -80 dBm) in the collar charging area.
Summary
Confirming 2.4 GHz WiFi coverage ensures your Halo Collar can connect reliably and maintain updates. Use scanning apps to check both coverage area and signal strength within your home, especially where the collar charges.
