Walk Feature
The Walk feature allows your dog to leave your fence boundaries safely while tracking activity like distance, time, and speed. It’s a great way to help your dog stay active and burn energy while maintaining control.
Step 1: Start a Walk
- Open the Halo app
- Tap the Health tab at the bottom of the screen
- Select the dog(s) you want to walk
Before starting:
- Make sure your dog is in a safe position and ready to begin
- You do not need to turn off fences
Step 2: Begin Walk Mode
- Tap Start Walk in the app
While Walk Mode is active:
- Your dog can cross fence boundaries without receiving feedback
- The app will track:
- Distance
- Time
- Speed
- You can still provide instant feedback using:
- The Halo app
- A remote beacon
Step 3: End the Walk
- Return to your fenced area
- Tap End Walk
- Your fences will automatically turn back on
- Your dog can safely roam off-leash again
Using Walk Mode for Car Rides
- You can activate Walk Mode when taking your dog for a drive
- End the walk when you return home
💡 Tip:
This allows your fences to remain active without needing to turn them off—especially helpful if you have multiple dogs.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Walk
- Ensure your devices are up to date:
- Firmware version 1.25.03 or later
- Halo app version:
- iOS: 1.96+
- Android: 1.83+
- Do not attach a leash to the Halo Collar
- Use a separate collar or slip lead
- Create a consistent routine when leaving your boundary
- Use a release word like “Free” or “OK”
- Check local leash laws before walking off-leash
Understanding the “Freedom” Value
During a walk, you may see a metric called Freedom.
- A higher Freedom value means your dog explored more and moved beyond your direct path
- A lower Freedom value means your dog stayed closer to you
This helps you understand how much independence your dog had during the walk.
