Halo Collar Fitting & Orientation
Purpose: Ensure your dog’s Halo Collar is fitted for optimal comfort, accuracy, and safety — so you get the most reliable protection and performance every day.
1. Why Fit Matters
A proper fit ensures:
Comfort — prevents irritation or slipping
Reliable feedback — ensures consistent contact
Accurate GPS tracking — maintains ideal antenna orientation
Even small differences in placement can impact how your Halo Collar performs
2. Step-by-Step Fit Guide
Watch the video or use the step-by-step guide below to fit and align the collar for optimal comfort, reliable feedback, and accurate GPS performance.
Prepare Your Dog
When fitting the collar for the first time, make sure your dog is calm and relaxed.
If they’re energetic, take them for a short walk or allow some time to settle.
A calm dog helps ensure a safe, comfortable fit and a positive first experience.
Fitting the Collar (Halo 4 & 5)
Once your dog is calm, it’s time to fit the collar. It should be snug but comfortable, with no sliding. Follow these steps for optimal comfort and performance.
- Align the Collar: Place the collar around the middle of your dog’s neck and rotate it so the power button aligns with their left ear and the charging port faces the rear — the collar should be positioned this same way every time.
- Position the Contact Tips: Place the contact tips on the soft area beside your dog’s throat—never on the windpipe. For the collar to work, both tips must make direct contact with the skin through the fur.
-
Adjust the Fit: Tighten the strap until it’s snug but comfortable. You should be able to slide two fingers between the strap and your dog’s neck.
Fitting the Collar (Halo 3 & Older)
For Halo 3 and older, the GPS antenna is located on the far left side of the collar when viewed from the front. This means the leftmost portion of the collar should sit near the back of your dog’s neck for the most accurate GPS performance.
- Align the Collar: Place the collar around the middle of your dog’s neck and rotate it so the speaker faces upward toward their left ear and head, and the charging port faces the rear — the collar should be positioned this same way every time.
3. Verifying the Fit
A properly fitted collar should stay in place — it shouldn’t rotate or slide around your dog’s neck. After fitting, observe your dog to ensure they can eat, drink, and swallow normally. If you notice any signs of discomfort, adjust the fit immediately.
4. Tailoring Your Collar
Once you’ve confirmed the fit, the next step is to tailor the collar so it’s perfectly sized for your dog. Follow these steps to adjust and secure the strap.
Remove and Reward: Gently remove the collar and praise your dog for doing a great job.
Adjust the Strap: If the strap needs adjustment, use your Perfect Fit Kit and follow the instructional video for guidance.
Trim the Excess: If more than 2–3 inches of strap remain, trim the extra length with scissors, leaving a few inches for future adjustments.
Secure the End: Attach the end cap using the included clamp, and keep the spare parts in a safe place for future sizing changes.
