When Does the Collar Give Prevention Feedback?
The Halo Collar only provides corrections when your dog leaves the safe area. If your dog crosses the fence boundary and continues moving away, the collar will give Emergency Feedback until your dog either stops moving or begins heading back toward safety.
Once your dog turns around and starts returning to the safe zone, Emergency Feedback stops, and the collar switches to Encouragement Feedback to guide your dog back home.
The collar will not correct your dog when:
Your dog is standing still
Your dog is moving back toward the safe zone
Warning, Boundary & Emergency Feedback
Types of Feedback
The Halo Collar provides multiple types of feedback designed to safely guide your dog within their Halo Fence:
Warning Feedback
Boundary Feedback
Emergency Feedback
Each feedback stage is fully customizable and can include:
Sounds
Vibration patterns
Static correction
You can view these zones in the Halo App when selecting a fence. The app displays the Warning Area and Protection Zone, and the information icon (?) will explain when each type of feedback occurs.
To manage your collar's feedback settings, see the article: "How to issue or manage Prevention and Encouragement Feedback"
Please note: With firmware version 3.5 and later, feedback can escalate more quickly and overlap rather than always being delivered one level at a time.
When your dog approaches the boundary, they may receive Warning Feedback first. If they continue moving toward or through the boundary, Boundary and Emergency Feedback may activate quickly and be delivered at the same time.
For example, if Sounds, Vibration, and Static Correction are enabled, your dog may receive multiple types of feedback simultaneously as they continue toward or across the boundary.
If your dog responds to the initial Warning Feedback by stopping or turning back toward the safe zone, additional feedback will not be issued.
This means your dog will not necessarily receive all three levels every time. The feedback they receive depends on how they respond and how quickly they are moving toward or across the boundary.
How Halo Fence Feedback Works
Your Halo Collar uses different levels of feedback to help guide your dog safely back toward their Halo Fence.
When your dog approaches the boundary, the collar will typically provide Warning Feedback first. If your dog responds by stopping or turning back toward the safe zone, the feedback will stop.
If your dog continues toward or crosses the boundary—especially if they are moving quickly—the collar may provide Warning, Boundary, and Emergency Feedback at the same time.
What Happens When Your Dog Approaches the Boundary?
Warning Feedback
As your dog approaches the boundary, the collar may first provide Warning Feedback to let them know they are getting close.
If your dog responds to the warning and turns back toward the safe zone:
- The feedback will stop
- Your dog can continue safely inside the fence
What Happens If Your Dog Continues?
If your dog continues toward or through the boundary, the collar may quickly add Boundary and Emergency Feedback.
The three levels of feedback can include:
- Sounds
- Vibration
- Static correction
These may be delivered simultaneously rather than one after another, particularly when your dog is moving quickly toward or across the boundary.
What If My Dog Stops or Turns Around?
The Halo Collar is designed to respond to your dog's movement.
If your dog:
- Stops moving, feedback will stop
- Turns around and heads back toward the safe zone, Emergency Feedback will stop
If your dog responds to the initial Warning Feedback and returns to safety, they may never receive the additional levels of feedback.
Why Might My Dog Receive Multiple Feedback Types?
The goal is to provide timely guidance when your dog continues moving away from the safe zone.
The exact feedback your dog receives can vary depending on:
- How quickly they are moving
- Where they are in relation to the boundary
- Whether they respond to the initial Warning Feedback
This means your dog will not necessarily receive all three levels every time they approach a boundary.
GPS Signal States (Low / Medium / High)
The Halo Collar automatically determines whether it is indoors or outdoors based on GPS signal strength. The Pet Card in the Halo App will display one of the following:
Low GPS
Typically indicates the collar is indoors
Prevention Feedback is paused
Medium GPS (Hybrid GPS)
Signals may be partially blocked
Collar may be indoors with stronger signals or outdoors with some obstruction
Prevention Feedback will not occur
The collar may instead give a Return Whistle if it believes your dog is crossing the boundary
High GPS
Indicates the collar is outdoors with strong satellite signals
Full fence prevention feedback is active
For best performance:
The collar should show High GPS outdoors
The collar should typically show Low GPS indoors
Medium GPS acts as a buffer to help prevent incorrect feedback indoors
You can adjust these thresholds using the GPS level settings to better match your environment.
Summary
With firmware version 3.5 and later, configured feedback types can be delivered simultaneously rather than one after another. If your dog continues moving farther away from the fence, feedback intensity may increase. Feedback stops when your dog stops moving or begins returning toward the safe zone.
