How to Test the Collar's Accuracy by Hand
Perform a hand test to evaluate your Halo Collar’s GPS accuracy and confirm where Prevention Feedback is being applied.
Step 1: Prep Your Feedback Settings
Some feedback settings can be difficult to recognize during a hand test, so it’s best to temporarily adjust them.
- Write down your dog’s current feedback settings
- Change feedback to three distinct, loud sounds for easier identification
Note: For steps on adjusting feedback settings, please reference this article.
Step 2: Prep Your App
- Open the Halo App and tap the My Map tab
- Select the Pet Card for the collar you want to test
- Confirm Bluetooth connection:
- You should see “updating live via Bluetooth” under your dog’s name
- For more information on the different types of connectivity, please reference this article.
- Once outside:
- Ensure Fences are ON
- Confirm they are fully synchronized
Step 3: Prep Screen Recording (Optional)
This step is only needed if you plan to send results to Customer Support.
- Start a screen recording on your phone
- Follow the instructions in this article to record your screen while testing the collar
Step 4: Perform the Hand Test
Follow these guidelines carefully to ensure accurate results:
- Hold the collar upright (speaker facing up)
- Make sure the inside label is facing you
- Keep your phone at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) away from the collar
- While holding the buckle:
- Gently shake the collar to simulate your dog’s movement
- Walk toward and around fence boundaries
-
This positioning helps avoid blocking the internal GPS antennas
Important Notes:
- The collar must be in motion for accurate results
- Holding it still may cause inaccurate GPS readings
- Watch the My Map screen while testing to track movement in real time
- After testing, restore your dog’s original feedback settings
Step 5: Send Screen Recording
If you recorded your test, you can send it to Support for review:
- Save your recording
- Open the Halo App
- Tap Settings
- Tap Send App Diagnostics
- Select Email from the “Share to” screen
- Additional options:
- Upload via Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox
- Share the link in your email
- Include:
- A brief description of your experience
- Send to:
- Reply to your existing support ticket, or
- Email support@halocollar.com
