Can I Use Halo if My Home Has a Metal Roof?
Yes, you can use the Halo Collar even if your home or another building has a metal roof. However, metal roofing can affect satellite reception more than non-metal roofs.
How a Metal Roof Affects GPS
Metal roofs can partially block GPS signals.
When the collar detects it is indoors, it automatically switches to Low GPS mode, which means:
Navigation is paused
Fence preventions are paused
This behavior is normal and expected for the Halo Collar.
When your dog goes outside, the collar’s GPS receiver quickly switches back to High GPS mode, restoring navigation and fence preventions.
Improving Indoor GPS Reception
It helps if the collar receives a low-level satellite signal indoors to maintain accuracy when returning outside.
If the GPS signal reads under 100 while indoors and off your dog/on the charger, try moving the collar to a better location:
Next to a window
Near an exterior wall
Close to an exterior door
Summary
The Halo Collar works even in homes with metal roofs. Low GPS mode indoors is expected, and placing the collar near windows or exterior walls can improve GPS accuracy when your dog goes outside.
