Do I Train My Dog to a Specific Boundary? Follow
NOTE: Please understand that it is essential to review the training modules in your Halo App, which cover this information in great detail. Reading support articles is not a substitute for thoroughly completing both the user and pet training programs.
With the Halo System, we don't train your dog to learn a specific boundary line or location on your property. Rather, we train that Prevention Feedback means ‘fence’ (Fast beeping is the default Warning Feedback), and ‘fence’ means to stop, turn around and head back to safety.
This is important because it teaches your dog a universal signal that breaks their fixation (or distraction), and then means they need to stop what they're doing and turn around. As such, you can take your dog to a friend's yard, the beach, the park, or anywhere else and set up a Halo Fence, with the confidence that your dog will turn around when they hear the Warning Feedback - even if they are in an unfamiliar location.
So you don't need to worry about the exact coordinates of the Halo Fence in your yard or anywhere else; as long as the dog receives Prevention Feedback at the boundary, he or she will know to stop and go back into their safe zone.
That said, please make sure your Halo Fence boundaries are at least 20 feet (4.6-6.1 meters) from your house and 20 feet (4.6-6.1 meters) from a road or other dangerous areas.
Note: You can customize your Halo Collar's feedback settings, so it doesn't need to be a 'beep' - you can also use a variety of vibration patterns or static correction to teach your dog to stop what they're doing and head back to safety. Also, as a reminder, there are escalating levels of Prevention Feedback intended to break your dog’s fixation if they are too distracted to respond to the initial feedback.
