Using Your Own Strap with a Halo Collar

Important: This article applies only to Halo Collar 3 and older Legacy Halo Collar models.

These instructions do not apply to Halo Collar 4 or Halo Collar 5, which use a different collar and strap design. Do not attempt to use the instructions below to replace or modify the strap on a Halo 4 or Halo 5.

If you need to replace the strap on your Halo 3 or Legacy Halo Collar and a replacement Halo strap is not available, you can use a third-party collar strap as an alternative.

The steps below will walk you through how to install your Halo Collar onto a compatible snap/clip-style or belt-buckle strap.

Before You Begin

• These instructions are for Halo 3 and Legacy Halo Collar models only.
• Snap- or clip-style straps may no longer be easily adjustable after installation.
• If your Halo Collar has a Halo Pro Case, remove the Pro Case before changing the strap.
  • Undo the Velcro fasteners and carefully remove the case.
  • You do not need to undo or disassemble anything on the Halo Collar itself.
  • Once the new strap is installed, replace the Pro Case and secure the Velcro fasteners.

Using a Snap- or Clip-Style Strap

1. Fit and adjust the new strap to your dog’s neck before installing the Halo Collar. Once installed, the strap may no longer be adjustable.
2. Unscrew and remove the Halo Collar's contact tips. Keep the contact tips, as you will need to reinstall them.
3. Open the two Retention Loops by unscrewing the thumb screws and releasing one end of each loop.
4. Carefully remove the existing Halo strap from the Retention Loops.
5. Using the original Halo strap as a guide, punch two retention holes in your new strap. The holes should be positioned in the same locations as they are on the original Halo strap, measured from the buckle end.
   • Note: Depending on the strap, you may need to punch through two layers of material. If so, the strap may no longer be adjustable after installation.
6. Slide the new strap into place and align the two retention holes with the contact tip locations on the Halo Collar.
7. Close the Retention Loops around the strap and hand-tighten each thumb screw.
8. Screw the original contact tips through the strap and back into the Halo Collar.

Using a Belt-Buckle Strap

1. Fit and adjust the new strap to your dog’s neck before installing the Halo Collar.
2. Unscrew and remove the Halo Collar's contact tips. Keep the contact tips, as you will need to reinstall them.
3. Open the two Retention Loops by unscrewing the thumb screws and releasing one end of each loop.
4. Carefully remove the existing Halo strap, then close and finger-tighten the Retention Loops.
5. Using the original Halo strap as a guide, punch two retention holes in your new strap. The holes should be positioned in the same locations as they are on the original Halo strap, measured from the buckle end.
6. Slide the new strap through the Retention Loops until the two retention holes align with the contact tip locations on the Halo Collar.
7. Screw the original contact tips through the strap and back into the Halo Collar.

Have a Halo 4 or Halo 5?

The instructions in this article cannot be used with Halo 4 or Halo 5. These models use a different collar and strap design than Halo 3 and Legacy Halo Collars.
