Does Halo Collar have a Minimum Age Requirement?
Yes. We recommend that dogs be at least 5 months old before beginning training with the Halo Collar.
Why Age Matters
Puppies develop in stages both physically and mentally. Similar to how children learn and mature over time, young puppies need time to develop the ability to understand more advanced training concepts.
Using the Halo Collar requires your dog to learn ideas such as:
Recognizing boundary feedback
Understanding that an unseen fence represents a limit
Learning to stop, turn around, and return to safety
These concepts are much easier for dogs to understand once they have reached a more mature developmental stage.
Expert Recommendations
Halo consulted with Cesar Millan and other professional trainers, who recommend waiting until a dog is 5–6 months of age or older before using a wireless dog fence system.
Experts agree that 8 weeks old is too early for this type of training because puppies at that age have not yet developed the necessary awareness and learning capacity for boundary training.
Halo’s Priority: Dog Safety
Halo’s recommendations are based on expert guidance and dog welfare, not simply on a dog’s size or what other systems may allow.
Waiting until your puppy is at least 5 months old helps ensure they are developmentally ready to safely and effectively learn how to use the Halo system.
