We recommend that you do not use the Halo Collar on a puppy until they have reached at least 5 months of age. The reason that we recommend waiting until your dog is at least 5 months old is due to the fact that puppies develop in stages. This is true both physically and mentally.
Similarly to how children's brains develop in stages, puppies need time to mature before boundary awareness becomes second-nature to them. We've consulted with Cesar Millan and other expert trainers, who agree that 5-6 months+ is the best timeframe to begin using an invisible dog fence system. When they are at least 5-6 months of age, puppies begin to reach a stage of development where advanced concepts, such as avoiding invisible boundaries, will start to make sense to them.
Our experts have advised us that 8 weeks is too early to begin using systems like these, which is why our recommendation is not simply based upon a dog's physical size or what other systems use as guidelines. At Halo, our top priority is the safety and welfare of all dogs! As a result, we've decided to heed the experts' recommendations about this ideal age range.
